Semester 3
Hello again!
First off, you have probably noticed by now that the old .com domain is no longer working. It expired and I decided not to renew it, which means that you will find me via the standard Blogg.se URL: www.juliadisa.blogg.se! Stay up to date by bookmarking it, saving it to favourites, following me on Bloglovin or whatever it is you do these days. Now that that is clarified, let me steer into the subject I was meant to write about: The third semester!
Yes, you read it right. I am soon at the halfway-mark of my Bachelor's degree! It feels like just yesterday I wrote this introduction post, saying "I just started my first semester of Media and Communication sciences, and by the time I finish my bachelor's I will have specialised in Global Communication. This whole university experience is still brand new and sometimes quite overwhelming. I will write more about this as we go along so stay tuned".
Do I still feel overwhelmed at times? Yes, I have to admit that I do. But not nearly as much or as often as I did a year ago. I feel like I have found my place in all of this, and that I am more at peace than I was then. It has definitely been the most eventful year in my life and it's pretty clear that I am still standing.
This whole "being at peace"-thing comes with choices, and I have made a few that relate to the start of the third semester.
- Decided to ditch the Global Communication specialisation and go with Strategic Communication instead. It deals with organisational communication, crisis communication and other aspects linked to work in organisations. I realised that it was closer to what I want to do in the future (although I would still love to work in a global context eventually). The third semester is our specialisation semester and so far so good!
- Decided to apply for some extra courses, outside of my programme, just for fun. Workload is getting a bit intimidating already though so I am considering dropping one of them and focus on two courses instead of three... We will see!
One course is about religion, sexuality and gender. Very very interesting and informative. Looking forward to the rest of the course!
- Decided to re-apply for the secretary board position in the student association Spectra. I realised I haven't posted anything about the association here, which is weird considering how active I have been and what a big role it has played in my university experience so far. Long story short: We are a student association at JU working for human rights and against discrimination! I have met some beautiful people through Spectra and learnt a lot from the work we have done together. <3
The latest project we finished was co-ordinating the students' participation in Jönköping Pride! I could do a separate post of just that day because it was just SO WONDERFUL. Some 8000 people joined and 1500 of those were students. There was just such a warm, loving and accepting atmosphere and I don't think I have ever been so PROUD of Spectra, of JU, of the Student Union, or of myself... I will always treasure that day very very much.

There has also been lots and lots of Kick-off activities! In a way just like last year, but still not quite the same when you're not a new student. These are Kick-off Festival bracelets. The Student Union organises an outdoor music festival ON CAMPUS. Pretty cool huh? It was fun!

Also, the manic collection of overall patches has begun. To be continued!
That's all I have for now. Thanks for popping in and reading, and remember to use the www.juliadisa.blogg.se URL next time!
Peace and love. / Julia
