Little India

Back to to the blogosphere! I've been looking forward to share these snaps from Little India, but the blog had to stand back a little as I dealt with school. I'll write an entry about my academic courses here at NTU soon, so keep checking in!
 
Now, from one place and culture to another! Let's dive in to the colour and vibrance of Singapore's Little India. Just a few MRT-stops from China Town is all it takes to discover something completely different. Coincidentally, we went just in time to see preparations for the Pongal festival, which I have learned is a Tamil harvest festival.

Answer: Extremely rarely! Beautiful street art though, you can focus on that if you like.
 
 
 
 
 
 
Flower shop that also offers special Pongal rice! Apparently you are supposed to cook it with milk and add cardamom, raisins and cashew nuts among other things. Of course, Wikipedia might not be the most reliable source... Feel free to correct this information!

Sugar canes are also part of the Pongal celebrations, and they were sold in almost every street corner!
 
 
I absolutely loved Little India and we will be back there soon, for sure. It was surprisingly calm and not at all as buzzing and stressful as Chinatown was. The people were extremely polite and helpful and rather than staring they offered us kind smiles. Great atmosphere!
