Day 6: Bonsai trees and national parks
Hey all! Next up in the Australia blog bonanza - the day Michael, Daniel and I went roadtripping! We didn't get very far until it started raining like CRAZY, so we decided to stop at the National Arboretum while waiting for better weather. They had a wonderful bonsai collection!

I had never seen bonsai trees up close before, so I found them very fascinating. These miniature trees have been kept, cut and tied for so many years, it's mindblowing!

Eventually we made it to our destination: The Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve. Australian nature is truly special, and even though it was cloudy and a little bit cold I enjoyed it a lot! We got to see cockatoos, kangaroos - and even a platypus! Apparently they are not very easy to spot, so we were very lucky!

Is there anything more peaceful than sitting by the water?

There were probably 30 or 40 of these hopping around! I was a bit scared to approach them, and it didn't get better when Michael said "Alright Julia, if they start chasing you, you just climb a tree". I think he was joking. Luckily, we never needed our tree-climbing skills. The roos kept to themselves and decided not to attack. They definitely stared, which I admit was a little bit eerie, but we managed to a lot closer to them than I expected!
Stay tuned, next Australia entry will be on my visit to the Australian parliament! Til then. / Julia
